May Update
Dear Friends and Family,

“It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.”
Greetings from beautiful Veľký Krtiš! I am happy to report that over the Easter holidays Jesus’ love was proclaimed and celebrated! We were blessed to have our first ever Good Friday service here in VK. We had worship and prayer reflecting the sacrifice our Lord made for us. I also had the challenging blessing of translating a short film of the death of Jesus into Slovak. I was told I
made 3 mistakes in 30 minutes of dialogue, and I am sure that number would have been much greater if the Lord’s hand was not in my work .Praise the Lord, the message was still clear and our first Good Friday service was a success!
We also had an Easter Egg Hunt part at the teahouse. Once again we were overwhelmed with joy by the number of students that attended even though Easter Egg hunting is an American tradition and it took some convincing that it would be fun. The weather was warm enough to hide the eggs all over the property and we had students running around like crazy trying to find them. After we had our egg hunt, my brother Noah shared the good news of Jesus to the students, of which 80% are un-churched. Praise the Lord! God is planting seeds in the hearts of these students and I am so grateful to be a part of it.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
One thing the Lord has been teaching me is that hospitality is a great ministry tool here in Veľky Krtiš. In the past four weeks I have hosted more than nine gatherings and meals in my home. One way I am responding to the Lord’s call of hospitality is by learning how to make tasty American treats from scratch. I am already known for my cupcakes and banana crumb muffins, but I have also learned to make things I am unable to buy here like tortillas, salsa, marinara sauce, chocolate chip cookies and frosting. I have also tried my hand at learning to make Slovak dishes like halušky (potato dumplings),schnitzel, goulash, cabbage soup and knedle (it is meat and sauce over soft spongy bread).
I am happy that I can use my home as a ministry tool, and I am grateful the Lord has given me the ability to not only use my oven, but use it well.
For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.
Construction on the new and improved teahouse has halted for a while. The walls have been
finished and the new tile floor installed. Unfortunately, we have reached the limit on what my boss calls “faith spending” and are waiting for funds so we can start painting and shopping for furniture; we are now focusing on cleaning up all of the dust (and there is a lot of dust)!
In June we will have a team of high school students coming from Scottsdale Bible Church to help on building a new fence; our fence now is old, rusted and falling apart. We are getting more and more excited for our new space and can’t wait to get it open and ready for use.
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him.
I also got some much needed time away a few weeks ago. One afternoon Chello and I hopped on a bus to Bratislava to stay with our friends Zuzi and
Jakub in their studio apartment. We all slept cozy in their living room/bedroom on their extra couch and pull out bed. Early the next morning, Chello and I hopped on a train to Vienna to drink Starbucks Coffee (my first in 7 months!), see some art and take a tour through the catacombs of St. Stephens’s
Cathedral- where you can still see the bones from 16,000 plague victims. Then we took the train back to Bratislava and hopped on a bus back to Veľký Krtiš. Our trip only lasted about 33 hours and ten of that was traveling, but it was still great to get away and get some time to rejuvenate.
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Prayer Requests
The Lord will lead my steps and I will let Him.
Since Saturday evening I have been bed/couch ridden with some kind of bug. Please pray for a speedy recovery.
Praise God! Over the last few months through special gifts and a few
people increasing their support levels, I have had enough money coming in to live and carry on the ministry without concern. I am still about $150.00 under the needed monthly pledged amount, though. Please pray the Lord will continue to provide and meet my needs.
Thank you all for the prayers and your partnership in this ministry with me. I am truly blessed by you and could not do that work before me without your encouragement and going to the Father on my and the ministry’s
behalf. God bless you!
